Before you begin

Starting a Qissa

Who is Qissa for?+
Qissa is for families who want to preserve the stories of a parent, grandparent, elder, or themselves. It works especially well for South Asian and diaspora families where memories live across languages, countries, and generations.
Can I gift Qissa to someone who is not comfortable with technology?+
Yes. That is exactly why Qissa is built around familiar tools like WhatsApp, phone calls, and email. Your loved one does not need to download an app, remember a password, or learn a new platform.
What happens after I buy a plan?+
The Qissa team collects the storyteller's language, location, preferred contact method, and any gift message. Then we schedule a warm onboarding call, explain the process, and begin sending gentle story prompts.
Can I start Qissa for myself instead of gifting it?+
Yes. You can use Qissa as a guided memoir, a family-history archive, or a gift for your children and grandchildren. The process is the same: prompts arrive, you respond in your own voice, and we shape the memories into a book.

How memories are captured

Stories, Language & Voice

Which languages do you support?+
Qissa supports Urdu, Hindi, Arabic, Punjabi, and English across prompts, transcription, translation, and bilingual book layouts. Right-to-left scripts are handled with proper care instead of being forced into an English-first format.
How do weekly prompts work?+
Each week, we send one thoughtful prompt such as a question about childhood, migration, marriage, recipes, rituals, work, faith, or home. The storyteller replies whenever they are ready, usually with a WhatsApp voice note.
What if my loved one misses a week?+
Nothing breaks. Life happens. We keep the archive open, continue with the next prompt, and can revisit skipped questions later. Qissa is designed to feel gentle, not like homework.
Are the stories written by AI?+
No generic AI memoirs. Qissa uses careful transcription, translation, editing, and layout support, but the heart of the book is the storyteller's real voice, memory, phrasing, and emotional rhythm.

What your family receives

The Book & Archive

What is inside the finished Qissa book?+
The finished book includes edited chapters, bilingual text where needed, family photos, chapter titles, and QR codes that let readers hear original voice notes or video memories from the page.
Can we add old photos?+
Yes. Families can share photos throughout the year. We weave them into the book where they belong, and Legacy plans include photo restoration for selected images.
How do the QR codes work?+
Each code links to the original recording from that chapter. A family member scans the page with a phone and hears the voice behind the story, so the book becomes both a printed heirloom and a living archive.
Can we order extra copies?+
Yes. Extra hardcover copies can be added for siblings, children, cousins, or relatives in other countries. Some plans already include multiple copies.

Practical details

Privacy, Pricing & Delivery

Are our family recordings private?+
Yes. Qissa is built as a private family archive. Recordings, transcripts, and photos are handled for the purpose of creating your book and archive, not for public publishing.
Where do you ship?+
Qissa ships globally, so your family book can travel wherever your loved ones are. Delivery timelines and local customs requirements can vary by destination.
Which plan should I choose?+
Choose Essential if your loved one is comfortable replying to prompts. Choose Concierge if they would benefit from monthly guided calls. Choose Legacy if you want dedicated support, photo restoration, video sessions, and premium copies.
Can I speak to someone before starting?+
Yes. If you are unsure about language, timing, delivery, or whether Qissa is right for your family, email the team and we will help you choose the simplest path.
